About

We are Katha and Matthew, two recent Oxford DPhils. We started this blog to share our passion for literature. We’ll be writing about what we read—classic and contemporary literature, and a good dose of foreign books. We want to introduce English-speaking readers to foreign books and writers we love and perhaps even convince English-speaking editors to have them translated.

Born and bred in the north of Germany, I (Katha) moved to the UK in 2006 to go to university. With the exception of an Oxfordian detour, I have since made London my ‘Wahlheimat’. It is here that I am pursuing a career in publishing whilst hoping to spread the love for literature, foreign as well as English. Apart from my precious mother tongue, I love to read in French and Italian (and one fine day in Russian) and I am excited about sharing my thoughts and discoveries with you.

I (Matthew) was born in London, where I spent most of my life and completed my BA. I have spent time living, working and researching in Vienna, and also lived in Krakow for six months during my undergrad. I read as much as I can in English, German and Polish, and will be writing about great books from Poland and the German-speaking world on this blog.
